Now, let’s have a look at our TE picks, by expert, for week #13 in the NFL.
Check back throughout the week as this column is updated with each respective writer’s picks as they roll out.
Zach’s Top TE: Travis Kelce
Kelce has not lit the world on fire as we all expected him to but still has had a great season. Kelce ranks 6th in catches (54), 5th in yards (689) and 7th in touchdowns (4) out of all tight ends. This week he gets a dream match up against the Raiders who allow the most fantasy points to the position and over a touchdown catch a game to tight ends. I love Kelce in this match up and he is my top tight end this week.
Brad’s Top TE:
Jared’s Top TE: Jordan Reed / Antonio Gates
Both of these guys are going to be in my lineups this week.
There aren’t many TEs under the $6,000 mark on FanDuel that I have a lot of confidence in, and Reed fits the bill. He ranks 6th in the NFL in total targets YTD, but 4th in the league on a per game basis when you strip out the games he wasn’t able to suit up for (8.3 per contest on average). The 3rd ranked player is Rob Gronkowski, who won’t be in uniform this week for the Pats, so put Reed in at the 3rd spot on this list entering week 13, behind only Antonio Gates and Greg Olsen. Reed has hit the 13+ FDP mark in 3 of his last 5 games. It’s worth calling out that Dallas has held opposing TEs in check for the most part this year, but I don’t see Kirk Cousins changing his weekly game plan based on the chemistry he’s displayed with Reed throughout the season – and in DFS you want to look for point-producing opportunities for your investments. For me, this makes Reed a solid cash game option at a very affordable price which also allows you to spend up at other positions.
It’s worth noting that Gates is an excellent pivot play at the same salary, even though he’s going up against Denver. Over the last 3 games, Denver has actually given up the 5th highest receiving yards vs opposing TEs – so his matchup on paper is a little more attractive. I have both him and Reed ranked on a similar level for week 13.
Matt’s Top TE: Delanie Walker
I love Walker this week against a team allowing the 7th most fantasy points to opposing tight ends. Two weeks ago, or closer to about 10 days ago, Walker ripped the Jags secondary apart to the tune of 8-109. While it was slightly disappointing that he didn’t find the end zone, it was still a huge effort. In Walker’s last 7 weeks, he’s put up 9 fantasy points or more 6 times.
Marcel’s Top TE: Greg Olsen
Olsen seems to be forgotten about in all the news stories, especially since Rob Gronkowski got hurt. All I see are articles about Scott Chandler being the greatest play of the week. Sometimes I think that as soon as one guy has a big game, or some hot new waiver wire pick is available, everyone jumps on board – but I try to remain vigilant in the fact that the matchup is what’s most important. I try not to get caught up into the hype of a certain player, unless it’s warranted. Keep in mind that Greg Olsen is now the reigning king of TE’s (receptions, targets etc…) now that Gronk is out.
