Welcome to the Starting Five NFL edition. This post will be similar to our NBA, NHL and CFB Starting Five. I will highlight five players I am looking at for my rosters. I will try not to use players I used in our Expert Picks posts and also will highlight if I am looking at them for GPP or cash contests.

1) QB – Tom Brady— Brady is expensive but he will be well worth it on this slate facing the weak Eagles secondary. It is pretty bad when you are in the same class of secondaries as the Saints but that is exactly what the Eagles are and they may be worse. Over the past four weeks, they have allowed 3 touchdown passes to Matt Cassel, 5 to both Jameis Winston and Matthew Stafford. If those quarterbacks are carving you up imagine what is going to happen when the GOAT coming off his first loss of the season faces you.

2) RB – Shaun Draughn — Draughn is not very good at all but he is cheap and getting the touches. He has three straight games with 20 touches and played 100% of the 49ers offensive snaps last week. He leads the 49ers in targets in the past 3 weeks and has 17 catches in that time frame. He should continue to gobble up the snaps for the 49ers in the backfield and has a good chance to reach 11 fantasy points for his 4th straight game.

3) WR – Alshon Jeffery — In the games Jeffery has been healthy he has been fantastic. In those 4 games Jeffery has 35 catches, 504 yards and 2 scores. Well Jeffery is healthy once again and faces a 49ers pass defense that is hard to figure out. Some weeks they look great other weeks not so much. I am banking on this week being a not so much week and Jeffery having a huge game.

4) TE – Scott Chandler — With all the injuries to the Patriots they have to pass to someone and that someone is looking like it will be Chandler. Chandler lead the Patriots in targets with 11 against the Broncos and turned those targets into 5 catches for 58 yards and a score. He has not been featured much in New England but has shown he can produce in the past with the Bills.

5) D/ST – Washington Redskins — I love the Redskins defense this week against what is now an awful Dallas Cowboys offense. We all know about all the injuries to the Cowboys but what you probably don’t know is how good the Redskins defense has been lately. They have at least 2 sacks in three straight games and have 2 touchdowns in that time frame. They got lit up against Cam Newton and the Panthers but shut down two other great offenses in those 3 games. I have a sneaky suspicion that the Redskins pitch a shut out on Monday night and they will be a defense I am streaming at their very cheap price.
